The Gay and Lesbian Equity Fund (GALE Fund) is concerned with the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender population of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket. We were established in 1998 within the Cape Cod Foundation (then the Community Foundation of Cape Cod) with a grant from the National Gay and Lesbian Funding Partnership. Our mission is to raise funds to distribute to other groups or agencies in support of specific projects to improve the lives of our constintuency.
Since 1998, the Gale Fund has raised and distributed over $192,000 in grant monies to support initiatives that address unmet needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals. These initiatives generally fall into one or more of the following categories:
• Improved access to health care, and education of health care providers
• Protecting civil rights
• Support services for youth as they accept their emerging sexual orientation
• Promoting understanding of the glbt community among the heterosexual community
• Ending hate crimes and violence
• Fighting discrimination against aging glbt individuals
• Building relationships among isolated glbt groups
The GALE Fund goal is to provide significant on-going funding for worthy projects through annual fund-raising and through building an endowment. Our vision is to enable the creation of a tolerant and supportive culture for the full population of Cape Cod and the Islands, regardless of sexual orientation.
Membership
In 2010 the GALE Fund will further define the
LGBT community on the Cape and Islands and find new ways we can nurture
it. We seek to increase membership by 25 percent and we’re counting
on you to help by renewing your membership today and recommending a
friend or organization for membership. You may also consider giving
an additional contribution in your name for a loved one or a friend
as a holiday gift. Your membership donation, which is fully tax-deductible,
can make a difference in our community today.
